Ancestral Color: California Native Plants for Natural Dyeing

Regular price $25.00 USD
Regular price Sale price $25.00 USD

Join me for a 90-minute online gathering rooted in the native landscapes of California, where plants, color, and story intertwine.

In this live workshop, we’ll explore the native plants I have personally worked with for plant dyeing and eco-printing, guided by years of hands-on practice, careful observation, and deep respect for the land. Together, we’ll walk through the plants themselves — their forms, the colors they yield, and the ways they imprint their essence onto cloth.

You’ll be guided through:

  • California native plants used for natural dyeing and eco-printing

  • High-resolution scanned swatches from my personal dye notebook, showing real results on fabric

  • Historical context and traditional uses of these plants beyond dye — including medicine, food, and fiber

  • An introduction to the Chumash people, their relationship to the land, and their ecological knowledge, with care and respect

  • Ecosystem awareness — understanding place, seasonality, and responsible harvesting

  • Book and resource recommendations for continued learning

This workshop is designed to be both educational and contemplative — a space to slow down, deepen your relationship with plants, and see color as something that comes from lineage, land, and time rather than extraction or haste.

No prior dye experience is necessary. This class is perfect for natural dyers, textile artists, plant lovers, educators, or anyone curious about ancestral ways of working with color.

We’ll close with an open Q & A, creating space for conversation, curiosity, and connection.

This class will take place over zoom & each attendee will receive a recording afterwards!

When: February 12th, 6pm-7:30pm
