Rootedbotanics

Plant Dye Immersion Course

Learning the cultural craft of plant dyes is a lifelong study. There are so many avenues to explore and so many experiments to be done. I love being able to offer one day workshops, but often times I feel like I have so much more to teach, explain, and discuss as a group in such little time. That is why I am SO excited to be offering this 5 week course to go over all of the basics of plant dyes so that you can get hands on experience over an extended period of time! This course will take place every Sunday from 4-7pm. Not only will this give you the chance to take your time learning the basics of plant dyeing, but it will give you an opportunity to connect, create, and learn in an intimate group setting. Together we will drop in as a group and share this beautiful and educational experience.

Each student will be given a custom Rooted Botanics Journal to take notes in and put swatches in.

Some general topics we will be covering throughout the course:

-the science behind scouring and mordanting

-specific dye recipes for each material we work with

-dyeing with modifiers to get different shades of color per one material

-science and recipes to creating different types of indigo vats

-how to get the most crisp and potent eco-prints
